Ono no Komachi was a waka poet of the early Heian period. Counted among the Six Poetic Immortals and the Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry, she has been celebrated in countless tales and legends as a peerless beauty. She is also known as the traditional model of kusōzu works depicting the decay of a noble lady's body, such as "Kusōzu: the death of a noble lady and the decay of her body."
