The story of the family after Higekuro's death. Of Tamakazura's two daughters, the elder marries Emperor Reizei and the younger enters court service. Yugiri is close to this family and is well regarded by them. It is widely held to be a later hand's forgery.

Scenes

  1. 1Kaoru, at Tamakazura's residence in early spring, hears a warbler singing on the plum and exchanges poems with the ladies.
  2. 2At Tamakazura's residence in plum season, Kaoru meets Kurando no Shosho; within, the ladies play the biwa and koto.
  3. 3Tamakazura's daughters play go wagering on the garden cherries; the winning girl goes into the garden to pick flowers; Kurando no Shosho peeks at this.
  4. 4On a late-spring evening, in Emperor Reizei's garden, Kaoru and Fuji no Chujo gaze at wisteria on a pine.
