僧都ら、妹尼の頼みで山を下り、一夜浮舟を加持する。

The bishop and others, at the younger nun's request, come down the mountain and perform incantations over Ukifune for a night.

秋、浮舟が身を寄せる小野の君の庵の前で、稲を刈る人々、歌を歌い興じあう。

In autumn, before the hermitage of Lady Ono where Ukifune stays, people harvesting rice sing songs merrily.

浮舟、少将のに誘われて碁を打つ。

Ukifune plays go at the Shosho's invitation.

尼君の庵に立ち寄った僧都に、浮舟出家したいと願い、几帳の帷子の綻びより髪を掻き出して切ってもらおうとする。

To the bishop who stops at the nun's hermitage, Ukifune expresses her wish to take the tonsure and tries to have him cut her hair through a tear in the screen curtain.

髪を下ろした浮舟、一人硯に向かい手習いをする。

Ukifune, having taken the tonsure, sits alone at the inkstone practicing calligraphy.

川辺で気を失っていた浮舟は、比叡山横川の僧都によって奇跡的に救出され小野の庵で保護されていた。記憶を取り戻した浮舟は俗世の愛執を断ち切るため、反対する僧都に懇願して髪を下ろし受戒する。小野の山里で念仏と手習いに明け暮れる中、明石中宮の加持に訪れた僧都の噂話から、薫は死んだはずの浮舟が生きていることを確信する。

Rescued from the verge of death by the holy Prelate of Yokawa, Ukifune is nursed back to health at a nunnery in Ono. Longing to sever all ties with worldly romance, she begs the prelate to administer the tonsure. Living as a novice practicing calligraphy, her existence is eventually disclosed to Kaoru when the prelate speaks of her during an exorcism service for the Empress.
