1. 1Suetsumuhana's residence falls into ruin.
2. 2In the desolate mansion, impoverished Suetsumuhana brings out pictures of the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter and the like to relieve her boredom.
3. 3Suetsumuhana's aunt comes to the ruined mansion to take her along on a journey to Tsukushi, rudely drawing her carriage up to the south side where a lattice stands ajar.
4. 4On the way to visit Hanachirusato, Genji notices the ruined residence with wisteria over the pines and has Koremitsu inquire.
5. 5Genji advances through the mugwort-grown garden of Suetsumuhana's residence as Koremitsu brushes the dew aside.
6. 6Reunited with Suetsumuhana, Genji composes a poem on the pine (matsu, to wait) to comfort her.
